Job Description

Position Summary:

The Accounting Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, analysis, control, and distribution of financial information for the casino. This includes managing assets, revenue, and funds in compliance with standard operating procedures, tribal and state gaming regulations, and GAAP.

Recruitment and Selection Criteria:

• Education: High School diploma or GED; BA/BS in accounting, finance, or related field (MBA preferred).
• Age: Must be at least 21 years old.
• Certifications: CPA preferred or eligible to sit for CPA exam.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years in financial/accounting roles with revenue audit and cash management responsibilities. Casino/gaming experience strongly preferred; Indian Gaming experience preferred. 
• Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, AML/Title 31 requirements, and relevant accounting software (Oracle, GP, MS Office Suite).

Key Accountabilities:

• Financial Management: Oversee Revenue Audit and Cage/Vault Departments, ensuring accuracy in reporting for all revenue-generating areas. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with internal controls and AML regulations.
• General Ledger: Maintain a complete GL system, prepare entries, and ensure accurate classification of transactions. Reconcile and adjust balance sheet accounts.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including bank reconciliations and journal entries. Review and interpret financial reports for accuracy.
• Budgeting: Assist in the preparation and implementation of annual budgets and forecasts. Work with the CFO and management on budget submissions.
• Inventory and Payroll: Oversee monthly inventory administration and act as a backup for payroll processing.
• Compliance and Security: Ensure adherence to gaming regulations, internal controls, and security measures. Assist in audit preparations and resolve audit findings.
• Team Leadership: Lead and motivate the accounting team, fostering a positive work environment. Provide guidance and training to ensure team effectiveness.

Ute Mountain Casino Hotel (UMCH) is a tribal casino located in Towaoc, Colorado, just a 20 minute drive from Mesa Verde National Park. The property currently has 650 slots, 7 tables, 90 hotel rooms, 80 R.V. spaces, 2 travel centers, and a team-member population of 397.
