Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost, the Coordinator for Disability and Accessibility Services is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of integrated disability support services and accommodations for eligible students. The Coordinator performs moderately complex and sensitive work with and on behalf of students with learning, physical, psychiatric/psychological, intellectual disabilities, and/or brain injuries, including people in crisis and those seeking assessment. Performs as a member of the Division of Student Affairs. This is a full time exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate support for students with disabilities.
  • Conduct intake and a detailed, interactive process with students, which may include interpreting complex diagnostic assessment results, neurological reports, and university policy to help.
  • Provide training, workshops, and other learning opportunities to faculty, staff, and students to raise awareness around stigma and unconscious bias towards students with disabilities.
  • Determine eligibility for services and verification of specific disabilities based on functional limitations.
  • Provide in-depth advising about student success and disability management.
  • Refer on and off campus for further or supplemental assessment.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, intervene, and modify individualized student action plans.
  • Serve as liaison and advocate for students regarding academic affairs, Financial Aid, Housing, etc.
  • Address complaints and facilitate solutions.
  • Evaluates progress of each student through various methods.
  • As appropriate, engage in frequent to constant interaction with students, parents, faculty, and staff to perform student advising and related support functions,
  • Uphold professional standards and university policies, mandates, executive orders, and procedures to serve all SFBU students,
  • Maintain files on each student in a highly confidential manner; frequently use the office student file system, databases, and web-based information. Compile and analyze data to prepare reports and other outputs on all aspects of support services area, including division and system-wide reporting.
  • Collaborate in the development of communications/marketing materials for students that can be accessed through orientation and digitally (web, app, etc.)
  • Coordinate physical access with Facilities Management, housing and academic departments.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement collaborative, co-curricular activities for students with disabilities to enhance and support wellness and academic success.
  • Support campus-wide events.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications:






Education: Master's Degree or equivalent experience from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences or a job-related field.


3-5 years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.



Preferred Qualifications:


Three years of working with students with disabilities in higher education,



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504, and related regulations.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with solving problems related to the Rehabilitation Act and other disability-related policies as applied to higher education.
  • Advanced skill providing cross-cultural disability management advising, understanding of compensatory learning strategies/techniques, and learning skills instruction.
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning disability assessment reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently obtain, compile, analyze, interpret, and evaluate information and medical data; effectively convey ideas, concepts, and recommendations in clear, concise reports and presentation formats; lead and serve on teams; adapt and be flexible to change in the work environment; provide outstanding customer service.
  • Understanding of the wide-range of abilities and individual experiences that may contribute to a student's needs.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology used by students in higher education.
  • Prior academic advising or student services experience at a four-year university. Second language fluency (speaking/writing) a bonus.
  • Working knowledge of FERPA and other federal regulations related to releasing educational records to third parties, general university policies and procedures, and academic program requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and packages.
  • Technical fluency with: Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Accommodations Request System, Student Information System.

This position has been designated as a sensitive position with responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and SFBU property; responsibility or access/possession of building master or sub-master keys for building access; access to and responsibility for detailed confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni.
  • This position is required to comply with confidentiality requirements outlined in the Department of Education's Family Educational Rights and Privacy and California's Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.
  • This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will be required to participate in annual training and to immediately forward to the Clery all reports of crimes brought to their attention pursuant to the Clery Act and California State Education Code, Chapter 16, of the Donahue Higher Education Act, Section 67380.
  • May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.




Work Environment & Physical Demands:



  • Majority of job responsibilities performed in an office environment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit or stand for long periods.



Salary range $70,000- 83,000, dependent on experience.
