Department : DPW- WPC Public Utilities

Summary of Position : Repairs sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in water pollution control facility and pump stations to control the flow and processing of sewage by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions.
  • Operate hand, power tools, and machinery in the fabrication, maintenance, repair and alteration of a wide variety of specialized wastewater plant collection, conveying and treatment equipment. Repairs and overhauls such machine1y and equipment as pumps blowers, compressors, mixers, bar screens, aerators, valves, sludge and scum collectors and all other related equipment.
  • Must keep work area clean, maintain inventory of spare parts and tools.
  • Perform all related duties to the maintenance of the facility including but not limited to: painting, cleaning, calibrating, preventative maintenance, record keeping, ordering, and purchasing supplies.
  • Welding, cutting, changing oil, and lubricating of equipment.
  • Experience at a POTW is strongly desired.
  • Observe all safety procedures.
  • Snow removal/snow plowing/snow shoveling is required anytime any day from at all WPC - FC Facilities and City streets.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Other Qualifications

One to two years appropriate maintenance experience and experience using hand and power tools.
